Udupi, Dec 20: Maryknoll Higher Primary School, Barkur celebrated its Platinum Jubilee at its school premises on Friday, December 18.
Chief guest, Correspondent, Fr Valerian Mendonca inaugurated the function by hoisting the flag and gave away the prizes on the occasion.
The programme was auspiciously graced by industrialist, B Srinivas Shettigar. Eric Cornelio, Ivan Rebello, the office bearer of St Peter’s Association, Barkur-Mumbai and Lalitha CRP.
Later, in the evening at 5, the president of the program, Dr Gerald Issac Lobo, Bishop of Udupi was escorted from the car street by student band and the hosts. On this occasion correspondent Fr Valerian and head mistress Sr Margaret,Martha Sequeira and Rufina Mendonca were honored by president of the programme. Eleven priests who have rendered their services as correspondent, ex-head mistresses and ten ex-teachers were also honoured.
Fr Lawrence D’Souza, released the souvenir and in his message, he said, “It’s time to thank God. This is just 10% of development in logical way of teaching; other 90% depends on relationships and examples. Teachers are the best books for learning.”
Speaking on the occasion, Bonifas Sequeira said, “Students of this institution have reached greater heights in life. The medium of this school should be a mixture of native language and English. It is prevalent in Maharashtra, where Math and Science are taught in English, History and Geography in local languages and Hindi and English in its own way.”
NageshShanbhag, BEO Brahmavar quoting the words of Gavayava said, “Do not reserve property for your children but let children be your property.”
Shaila D’Souza expressed her joy for having studied in the school and credited her success to the school.
Sr Syelvestin Lobo said, “Today’s world has given more prominence to things than persons. Instead of valuing life, people collect money for the future. In such a society, let values and goodness grow.”
Fr Lawrence D’Souza, the secretary of Catholic Education Society Udupi, BonifasSequeira, president of St Peter’s Association, Barkur–Mumbai, Nagesh Sharubhag, BEO, Brahmavar, Shaila D’Souza, Shantaram Shetty and Sr Syelvestin Lobo were the guests of honor.
More than 1,500 people had fun-filled time with various entertainment programmes and Christmas wishes.
Fr Valerian welcomed the guests and addressed the gathering. Teacher Rosy Lewis extended the vote of thanks.
