Udupi, Dec 20: Brahmavar taluk Horata Samithi, Herooru Nagarika Horata Samiti and several other groups and associations on Saturday, December 19, jointly protested against chaos created near Brahmavar bus stand due to national highway four lane work and demanded the authorities to set things right.
As Brahmavar marker is split, the buses plying to Kundapur and Barkur stop near Bantara Bhavan without entering the bus stand. Because of this, thousands of commuters have to risk crossing the highway. Besides that, occupants of nearly 500 houses in Indiranagar have to inevitably cross the highway to come to the market. Therefore the protesters urged for the construction of an underpass for pedestrians to cross near the bus stand.
The protesters also urged for construction of median open divider so that all the buses enter the bus stand which will facilitate buses and other vehicles arriving from Udupi and proceeding towards Munjalu.
Superintendent of police, Annamalai visited the place and received a memorandum from the protesters. He assured of holding a meeting of national highway authority, contractors and local leaders next week and find a solution.
An appeal was also submitted to Brahmavar Special Tahsildar and Highway authority.
Different people representatives, leaders of groups and associations and citizens participated in the protest after voluntarily closing their shops and offices.
Taluk Horata Samithi president Barkur Sathish Poojary welcomed. Herooru Nagarika Horata samiti secretary Sadashiva Shetty proposed vote of thanks.
