Man caught for stealing ornaments from sister-in-law's house

Sullia, Dec 16: The police from the town station here have arrested a person for stealing ornaments belonging to the sister of his wife, after visiting her house as guest. The incident occurred at Peruvaje Thotadamoole in the taluk.

The arrested accused has been identified as Hanif, resident of Kukeribettu in Netlamudnoor village of Bantwal taluk. The police, besides arresting him from his house, also recovered seven sovereigns of gold ornaments worth Rs 1.30 lac which he had pledged to a private finance company.

Khateejamma from Thotadamoole in Peruvaje had filed a complaint in the local police station on December 13, about the theft of ornaments on November 4. Khateejamma's sister's husband, Hanif, had accompanied some other guests to the house of Khateejamma on November 4. Khateejamma, who had kept the ornaments she was wearing in a cupboard before going to take bath, found when she opened the cupboard after the guests left, that the ornaments had gone missing.

Growing doubtful, she had questioned the guests but all of them including Hanif stood their ground, claiming themselves to be innocent. Thereafter, she had filed a police complaint.

Hanif confessed to his crime during police questioning. The court remanded the accused to 15 days judicial custody.
