Madrid, Dec 6 (IANS): Karim Benzema helped put a difficult week for himself and his club behind as he scored two goals in Real Madrid's comfortable win 4-1 at home to Getafe in the Spanish league.
Real Madrid on Saturday went into their first home game since the 4-0 home defeat against FC Barcelona a day after being kicked out of the King's Cup knockout competition for fielding an illegible player (Denis Cheryshev) and the young Russian, Xinhua news agency reported.
Coach Rafael Benitez and club President Florentino Perez were all booed by the fans ahead of the game.
Meanwhile, Benzema went into the game after another week in which the press was filled with stories of his indictment for an attempt to bribe French international Mathieu Valbuena.
Benitez had highlighted Benzema's importance to the club in Friday's press conference and the Frenchman showed that when he opened the scoring in the fourth minute following a cross from Pepe.
He doubled the score after 19 minutes following a move which began with a James Rodriguez cross and ended with him scoring after Gareth Bale had knocked the ball down in the Getafe penalty area.
The visitors failed to show any sign of reaction and Bale scored Madrid's third nine minutes from half time with a left-foot shot and Ronaldo made it 4-0 four minutes later when he finished off a counter-attack with a simple finish.
It was going to be hard for Madrid to maintain the pace of the first half, while Getafe also tightened things up in midfield and defence, all be it too late.
The visitors recovered some pride 20 minutes from time when Alexis headed a goal from a corner. But that was never going to put Real Madrid's lead in danger, as Benitez's side cruised till the end of the match.
