Mangaluru: Hit by car, pedestrian loses life near Mulky

Mangaluru, Dec 5: A pedestrian walking by the side of the road was done to death by a car coming from the direction of Mangaluru on national highway opposite petrol bunk at Karnad near Mulky at around 8.30 am on Friday December 4.

Nishikant (29), son of Yashwant Sanil and Vasanti couple residing near Harihara temple in Karnad lost his life in this accident. Nishikant worked for a garage located at the Chitrap cross road near Mulky. As was his practice, he had visited nearby temple and was walking to the garage for work, and was taking a turn towards Chitrap on the western side of the highway, when a Bolero vehicle coming from the direction of the city knocked him down. He suffered serious injuries, and breathed his last before reaching the hospital, although the driver of Bolero took him immediately to a private hospital located at nearby Mukka, it is gathered.

Since a week, the highway between Karnad Bypass and Kinnigoly diversion road has been turned into single lane, as work is in progress on one side of the road. The locals said that a number of accidents have been occurring at this stretch as the department has failed to put in place safety measures.

Nishikant was unmarried. He has left behind mother and a younger sister.
