Car-borne miscreants attempt rape, flee after abandoning car

Mangaluru, Dec 2: In an incident which occurred on the night of Monday November 30 at Kateel, two youngsters seated in a car tried to rape a girl who was alone at the time. It is said that the girl, after attending the Laksha Deepotsava organized at Kateel on Monday, was returning home by walk, when the men sitting in a car accosted her in the guise of seeking directions. They suddenly tried to abduct and rape her, when she raised an alarm.

Some locals came running on hearing the girl's shout for help. By the time they could catch hold of the accused, they ran away, abandoning the car on the spot.

It is gathered that the girl belongs to dalit community and was going back home at around 9 pm when a youth sitting in a Maruti Omni vehicle came near her on the pretext of seeking directions. Suddenly he pulled her inside the van, and he, along with another person inside the van, tried to rape the girl. The incident occurred near the bus stand at Kateel.

The names of the accused have been given as Nitin and Dinesh, both from Moodbidri. A case stands registered in Mulky police station about the incident.
