Shivamogga, Nov 28: In connection with the theft of medals, citations, plaques etc from the house of celebrated Kannada poet and writer, Kuvempu, whose eminence had been recognized by the state government by conferring the title, 'Rashtrakavi', the police have made two more arrests. The persons now arrested are Anjanappa (45) who is said to have helped prime accused, Kayakada Revanasiddappa from near Davanagere, in stealing the items, and Prakash (48), a resident of Mandarahalli in the district, who had bought the medals by paying Rs 10,000 to Revanasiddappa.
But the police could recover only the metal plate, but not the prized 'Padma Vibhushan' meda, which was attached to it. Inspector general of police (IGP - eastern range), Dr Nanjundaswamy, said that Revanasiddappa gave out the names of his accomplices during his questioning on Thursday night. Revanasiddappa faces 13 theft cases in different police stations across the district.
Anjanappa from Kanganoor in Channagiri taluk has been working as attender in the house of Kuvempu since last several years. His present residence is at Gadikal near Kuppalli. He was at the spot when the police went to Kuppalli for investigation.
Addressing a press conference on Friday, the IGP said that Revanasiddappa has confessed to them that the Padma Visbhushan medal has been lost. He said that the police have been searching for this medal, and exuded confidence of finding it out soon.
