Mangaluru, Nov 26: President of district JD(S) committee Mohammed Kunhi on Wednesday November 25 claimed that the communal clashes which erupted in the district after the Tipu Jayanti celebrations was due to a 'secret understand' between the ruling party of the state Congress and the BJP.

Addressing a press meet here, Kunhi said, "Law and order in the district has deteriorated due to the carelessness of four ministers in the district. Hindu outfits are ruling the district instead of the district administration due to which the officers of the police department are scared to face them. This has to be curbed and law and order has to be restored in the district.

"BJP leaders accused the government of its failure in the murder case of Prashant Poojary but they kept mum after the arrest of the accused in Harish Poojary's murder. The Congress leaders who are supposed to backlash are also keeping mum on the issue. The clashes took place as a result of a secret understanding between the two political parties. JD(S) strongly condemns this," he said.

Rise of gambling centres in district

The JD(S) president also held the ruling Congress party responsible for the rise of gambling centres in the district. "About 22 to 24 gambling centres in the city corporation limits are operating since a few days. In the name of recreation clubs, gambling centres are being operated with police permission. The gamblers have not even spared places used for cremation," he alleged.

"JD(S) will contest the zilla panchayat polls in Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts in coordination with the left parties," he added.

District spokesmen of the party, Chengappa SP, office bearers Iqbal Mulky and Rathnakar Suvarna were present.
