Beltangady, Oct 20: Hindu outfits obstructed transportation of cattle from Shishila village in the taluk with the support of police here, alleging that it was being done illegally.
It is said that a similar attempt to transport two buffaloes had been foiled two days back, as the transaction was not backed by any licence or permission. Hindu organizations claim that these buffaloes were meant to be taken to slaughterhouse. It is said that local activists were supported also by young members of Hindu organizations who arrived from other places. It is said that another attempt was made by the same team to carry cattle again out of the village, duly armed with a permission letter containing the signature of gram panchayat president.
A team from near Paddadka had bought two buffaloes from a person from Shishila. These buffaloes were loaded on to a pickup truck at night for being taken out, but local activists of some HIndu outfits had blocked this attempt. On that occasion, supporters of transporters had come from Nelyadi in a Mahindra Scorpio vehicle. During this period, heated words had been exchanged between the local activists and cattle transporters.
After the local Hindu activists stuck to their stand that in the absence of licence for any specific purpose, they would not allow the cattle transportation. Thereafter, the cattle were unloaded, and the team returned empty-handed.
This team thereafter approached Shishila gram panchayat, seeking permission to take the buffaloes purchased by them. Local organizations asked the gram panchayat not to entertain this application. As such, the village development officer of the gram panchayat stayed away from issuing the permission letter. The team then tried to take the buffaloes on the basis of a letter signed by the gram panchayat president. This was again resisted by local organizations. When the concerned contacted police circle inspector, he asked Nelyady outpost police to provide protection to transporters if they have documents supporting the deal. Nellyady police went to Shishila in jeep.
Convener of Nelyady regional unit of HIndu Jagran Vedike, Raviprasad Shetty, and Hindu leader, Kishore Shiradi, have condemned the incident and warned of fighting out this illegal act through village level agitations.
