Ranchi, Oct 15 (IANS): The Jharkhand government and GAIL (India) Limited on Thursday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to set up a 340-km long gas pipeline in the state.
The MoU was signed between officials of the Jharkhand government and GAIL in the presence of Chief Minister Raghubar Das. The project will be completed by 2019.
Speaking on the occasion, Das said: "As people take water from water tap, the consumers will take gas in similar manner after the gas pipeline work is completed."
GAIL (India) CMD B.C. Tripathy and others were also present.
The proposed pipeline will pass through six districts -- Dhanbad, Bokaro, Giridih, Hazaribagh, Ranchi and Jamshedpur. Through the pipeline, natural gas will be provided to steel and fertiliser plants of Bokaro and Sindri.
