Udupi, Oct 15: Taking on state urban development and district-in charge minister, Vinay Kumar Sorake, head-on for ridiculing former chief minister, B S Yeddyurappa's proposed Raita Chaitanya Yatra, MP representing Udupi-Chikkamagaluru Lok Sabha constituency, Shobha Karandlaje, charged him of shielding a rape-accused and thereby showing that honour of women has not been on his list of priorities.
"Sorake has spoken lightly of women and farmers. His talk shows his stature. We cannot expect anything else from a person who speaks derisively about women," she said on Wednesday October 14, reacting to Sorake's comments on the above Yatra.
Shobha alleged that sometime back, rape attempt had been made on the daughter of a housemaid working at Sorake's house, when the girl was returning home from college. "The villagers had caught hold of the offender and handed him over to the police. But the minister intervened and ensured that the accused got bail the same day, and brought pressure towards closing the case," she said.
