Bantwal,Oct 13: Unidentified thieves broke into Sajipa Mooda branch of Karnataka Bank Ltd near here in the wee hours of Monday October 12 but failed to lay their hands on cash or valuables.
The thieves succeeded in entering the bank branch by breaking open the lock of the front shutter but their effort went waste. Although the closed circuit television (CCTV) camera in the bank has recorded entry of three thieves into the bank, the images are not clear enough to enable police to identify the culprits. The policemen have calculated the theft attempt occurred between 2 and 3 am, based on CCTV footage.
This bank branch is located by the side of the main road, and a hi-mast lamp that is located near it sheds bright light at the entry point of the bank. Still, the thieves made an attempt to burgle valuables from this bank, unmindful of the risks involved. This has surprised the locals. The incident, which has happened within a few days of the unresolved high value theft which occurred at Bhagavati Cooperative Bank at B C Road Junction near here, has dropped enough signals for the concerned to beef up security measures.
Bank manager, Girish Mayya, said that the locker, strong room, records, cash, and valuables in the bank remain untouched. Nothing has been stolen from the bank, excepting the damage done to the shutters and breaking of the lock, he added.
Circle inspector, K U Belliappa, town police station sub-inspector, Nandakumar, crime sub-inspector, Gangadharappa, and other policemen visited the spot and launched investigation.
