Mangaluru, Oct 10: Allcargo Logistics Company Ltd and the Avvashya Foundation distributed scholarships to the children of the Prajna Counseling Centre who are under difficult circumstances on October 4 at the Bishop Rev CD Jathanana Hall of the Karnataka Theological College, Balmatta.
Nakre Surendra Shetty, manager– CSR of Ms Allcargo Logistics Ltd., in his address explained about the social responsibility projects of the company.
He stated that the founder of the company Dr Shashikiran Shetty was of the view that no deserving or talented child should be deprived of an education and even the children of economically poor families should have an opportunity to have proper education so that they can have a better future.
He said that the company has been distributing scholarships to the meritorious students of the undivided Dakshina Kannada district from the last five years and for the current academic year 2015-16, about 2,230 students of high school, pre-university, degree, diploma, ITI, B Ed, engineering, pharmacy, degree and postgraduate courses have been provided scholarships amounting to about Rs71 lac.
Balakrishna Gatty, former principal of SVS College Bantwal, in his motivational talk stressed on the importance of a good educational background. He said that he often comes across his past students who introduce themselves to him and when they say that they are holding senior positions in some organizations, it makes him feel proud and honored.
He further said that Dr Shashikiran Shetty, was one of the special students who was very active during his college days. He was happy that Dr Shetty had excelled in life and set up a company of international status and who is now desirous of repaying his debt to society by providing scholarships to the talented students of his hometown so that they can have a strong foundation for their future education.
Scholarships amounting to Rs six lac were distributed to 188 children of various projects of Prajna Counseling Centre.
Prof Hilda Rayappan, director Prajna Counseling Centre welcomed the gathering and Anand Attavar proposed the vote of thanks. Narayan Nayak, retired headmaster and Devdas Uchil of Prajna counseling Centre were also present.
