Udupi, Oct 4: Udupi district Billava Yuva Vedike felicitated 292 newly elected gram panchayat members at Arur Sri Laxminarayan Rao auditorium here on Sunday October 4.
District in charge minister, Vinay Kumar Sorake inaugurated the programme by lighting the lamp. He also congratulated all winning candidates.
Addressing the gathering, he said, “The gram panchayat is only one system where public has direct communication system with its elected representatives. GP has its own responsibilities”.
“Billava Vedike had been organized many useful programmes in the last two years. Organization such as this gives strength to work. Our children are our future. We have potential persons in the society but we need to recognize them. Elected representatives should make use of available time honestly for the betterment of society. Let us face the challenges of society”, said Sorake.
Speaking on the occasion, MP Kota Srinivas Poojary said, “There are 6017 GPs in the state and approximately one lac people in the district. Out of the total, 52, 000 are women, 25, 000 are SCs and 16, 000 are illiterates. The deprived section of the society should be brought to mainstream”.
Addressing the GP elected members, he advised, “Govern with confidence and take part in government organized training programmes. GP is meant for reaching government benefits to public”.
All 292 GP elected Billava members received honorary certificates at the felicitation event.
Dr Satish Poojary, president of the Vedike presided over the programme.
Janardhan Thonse, President of town planning authority, Savita S Kotian, president of Udupi, zilla panchayat, Vishwanath Kalmady, treasurer and others were present.
Praveen M Poojary presented annual reports of the last two years.
Achyuth Amin Kalmady, honourable president welcomed the gathering and Shivprasad Palan Bengre, chief secretary extended the vote of thanks. Dayanand Uggelbettu compered the programme.
