Udupi, Oct 3: In order to create awareness on the launch of compulsory helmets and safe riding, the students of St Mary's college along with the professors and the police of Shirva and Udupi held a rally from the college campus till Pilarkhan on Saturday October 3.
Nearly 58 bikes took part in this awareness procession with students holding placards signifying the importance of wearing helmets. The rally was held for about an hour and later on the students were asked to assemble in the college auditorium for a formal function.
Fr Dr Anil Castelino was the president of the function, whereas GM Naiker, circle police inspector was the chief guest, Prof Rajan V N, principal of the college, Laxman, crime police Inspector, Kaup, Wilson D’souza, vice president of parish council Shirva, Prof Dr Padmanabha Bhat, student welfare officer and the office bearers of the student council were the other dignitaries on the dais.
To highlight this event further, there was a release of a short film based on ‘Road Safety Awareness’ under the guidance of Annamalai K, Superintendent of Police, Udupi district. This short film was directed by Prathvi Castelino of 2nd B.Com and his team of friends Anush, Sushanth Poojary, Shajan, Austin Alva and the cameraman as Anson D’souza, students of the respective college. This short film was screened to all the students of St Mary’s College.
The team had received immense support from the principal, staff and the students for their venture.
