Bengaluru, Oct 1: Sheep and wool federation, another federation on the line of Karnataka milk federation (KMF), is going to be a reality very soon, said chief minister Siddaramaiah on Wednesday, September 30 in Bengaluru.
He was speaking during the foundation laying ceremony for the new super speciality animal hospital and Pashubhavan at Hebbal in Bengaluru.
“Karnataka milk federation buys milk directly from farmers and delivers to customers. The middlemen problems are eliminated here and the farmers also get better profits. On the same lines, we have plans to create a sheep and wool federation. Though there is good demand for mutton, the farmers hardly get the benefits and due to many problems, the customers do not get good quality mutton. The creation of federation will help the sheep rearing farmers to get more profits and also for the customers to get better meat products,” Siddaramaiah added.
“Because of the federation, more hygienic mutton products will be available for the customers, Also the mutton sold in the federation outlets will be branded like the milk products sold by KMF. ” Siddaramaiah concluded.
“Keeping with the times, the Karnataka sheep and wool development corporation (KSWDC) will become a federation on the lines of Karnataka milk federation,” KSWDC chairman Pandit Rao Chidri had revealed on September 28.
The Karnataka sheep and wool development corporation had so far constituted 600 co-operative societies of wool and sheep rearing farmers in the state. The corporation will soon launch mobile clinics for sheep and goat in 18 districts of the state.
