Rio de Janeiro, Oct 1 (IANS): Sao Paulo's Corinthians Arena will host 10 Olympic football matches next year under a deal signed with the Rio 2016 organizers.
The 48,000-capacity venue, built for last year's FIFA World Cup, will host two group games, a quarter-final and a semi-final in the men's tournament, reports Xinhua.
It will also be the stage for four group games, one quarter-final and the bronze medal match in the women's competition.
"Our wish and our message has always been that the Rio 2016 Games are for all of Brazil, that they will integrate the country," Rio 2016 president Carlos Nuzman said on Wednesday. "This extraordinary stadium makes us all proud and will certainly be the stage of important matches."
Olympic football will also be played in the cities of Salvador, Belo Horizonte, Brasilia, Manaus and Rio.
