Mumbai, Sep 30: Singh is Bliing actor Akshay Kumar who met up with Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, at a fund raiser the previous day, collected enough money to help out up to 100 families of farmers. The meeting that happened behind closed doors of the secretariat and lasted for half an hour. The fund raiser that Akkie spoke of was a fashion show that was held in the theme of Akshay soon to be released movie Singh is Bliing. The charity function was hosted by Hindustan Times. Akshay also informed the CM that he and his Singh is Bliing team had been sending out whatever money they could collect to help the needy farmer widows, all over the state.
Reportedly CM Kejriwal told Akshay, “Please tell us how we can help the cause. I’m ready to contribute from the CM’s relief fund." Akshay who has been helping out these families in dire need of aid informed the Minister that, “One farmer’s family requires around Rs 50,000 to support livelihood for six months. I have been supporting thirty families each month. At the fund raiser event yesterday, we could collect money for a 100 families more, in just 15 minutes.” The funds are to be sued to rehabilitate widows of farmers who committed suicide as well as the help surviving families to clear their debts and begin life anew.
Kejriwal spoke to the actor of an NSSO report that stated that many farmers were moving away from farming as the occupation was not enough to sustain their families. About the AAP leader, Akshay Kumar said, “I found him to be quite a down-to-earth person. It’s kind of him to offer support for a cause that’s not directly related to his State." The actor has also, reportedly offered to be the brand ambassador for any campaign that the Delhi Government initiates to alleviate the sufferings of the farmers and their families.
Currently in the grips of severe drought, the state's agrarian crisis is only getting worse by the day. Akshay Kumar is said to have already donated Rs 90lakhs for the cause.
