Madrid, Sep 28 (IANS): Portuguese club FC Porto's veteran Spanish goalkeeper Iker Casillas lamented on Monday the death of Real Madrid legend Ignacio Zoco, who played for the club between 1962 and 1974.
Zoco, who was the president of the Association of Former Real Madrid Players, died on Monday aged 76, reports Efe.
"Zoco has left us. A great madridista and a great person! R.I.P," Casillas tweeted.
Club Atletico Osasuna, where Zoco played from 1959 until 1962, extended its deep condolences on the death of the former player.
Real Madrid player Alvaro Arbeloa also sent his commiserations to Zoco's family, while former Real Madrid player and current Marseille manager Michel said that Zoco was one of Real Madrid's legends, and added that he will always remain in his heart.
Former Real Madrid player Miguel Angel Portugal mourned Zoco's death, in addition to the Association of Spanish Footballers, which expressed its deepest grief and condolences to Zoco's family and friends, as well as the Royal Spanish Football Federation, highlighting Zoco's career with the Spanish national team, in which he played 25 games and won the European Championship.
