Udupi, Sep 28: District consumer forum and district engineers' association Udupi organized a public meeting on Saturday September 26 to gather public opinion on the development of the city.
On the same occasion Nagesh Hegde president of district architects' association presented a talk on 'the role of engineers in city development'.
Speaking on the occasion he said, "Udupi is facing a scarcity of infrastructural facilities as development takes place. Drainage system and irregularity of water supply need to be improved.
He further stated that the master plan contract of the city should be given to local engineers who are aware of the real problems better than others. This plan will be completed by 2025.
Bojaraj, an army commander opined that instead of complaining about irregularities in the work the district authority should take up the work.
Udupi has only one park for citizens but is lacking in maintainance. The city has no common parking place for tourist vehicles.
Another person said, "The CMC must call for a ward meeting every month."
Thenkapete resident noted that drinking water of the well has been getting polluted due to poor drainage construction.
Altaf Ahmed said that there is need for awareness to be created among the public on cleanliness.
Laxmi, a member of the consumer forum complained that varahi is a never ending water project unlike other short projects. Udupi is not a plastic free city as seen on sign boards.
Sudhir Kanchan alleged that CMC is not following the laws strictly while constructing commercial buildings.
