Mangaluru, Sep 25: Dr Krishna Shenai, vice president LoPel Corporation - Naperville, United States delivered a lecture on ‘Clean Energy and Power Systems’ at St Joseph Engineering College, here on Friday, September 25.
Dr Shenai, during a seminar explained that for anything to be done in life one needs to have a vision, passion and more importantly a drive to excel. He was brought up in a poor family of 12 children. Their house was located in a remote village of Udupi.
Dr Shenai further said, "I am happy about that I learnt a lot during my childhood. Today the cheapest and most used form of energy in the world is electricity. There is fossil fuel (coal), nuclear energy and natural gas. Gasoline vehicles pollute the environment so a transition is taking place and people are choosing electric vehicles. The prime form of energy used other than transport is electricity. Of the total energy produced only 30 percent is used and the remaining 70 percent gets wasted in the form of heat. Out of the energy used 60 percent is used by motors, 20 percent for light and the remaining 20 percent by computing/telecoms and others. India wants to copy technology of other countries but there will be no result as there is a difference in the needs of other countries and India. The Indian grid has enough energy but it is not used properly. India is practicing centralized energy distribution system but it should be locally variable. Power should be produced in the form of wind energy, solar energy and other forms locally."
Dr Shenai was felicitated on the occasion.
Fr Joseph Lobo director, Dr Joseph Gonsalves principal, Dr Rio D'Souza vice principal, St Joseph Engineering College, Mangaluru and others were present.
