Mumbai, Sep 24: Monti Fest was solemnized for the third time at Good Shepherd Church on Sunday September 15.
The festivity began with children showering flowers and venerating infant Mary. This was followed by a Konkani mass celebrated by Fr Hubert Goveas. In his homily, Fr Hubert emphasized that devotion to Mother Mary held Catholic families together. Such Marian devotions have drawn children of all ages closer to their spiritual mother and through her to her son, Jesus. Traditionally, this feast was indeed a family celebration where all members together honored Mary and shared a festive meal.
The new crop (novem) was blessed by Fr Pavin during mass. The mass was complimented by traditional Konkani hymns sung by the Konkani choir. The mass was followed by a cultural program in the church extention hall.
Novem mixed in milk was served to everyone. Cultural events included Konkani songs, a comedy skit and spot prizes. There was also a raffle draw and the lucky winner walked away with a bumper prize.
Everyone enjoyed the fellowship meal (novem jevonn), a traditional Mangalurean vegetarian lunch served with vorn (kheer). Novem and laddoos were distributed to everyone after lunch.
It was truly a memorable day for everyone who was part of the program. We thank Mother Mary for all the graces bestowed on us and on our parish.
