New Delhi, Sep 16: Karnataka’s Social Welfare Minister H Anjaneya has demanded Central assistance of Rs 155.72 crore for providing financial assistance to the State’s beneficiaries from Other Backward Class (OBC) communities.
The minister called on Union Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Tavarchand Gehlot and submitted a detailed memorandum in New Delhi on Wednesday.
Anjaneya was accompanied by senior officials from the State’s Social Welfare Department and B N Chandrappa, Chitradurga MP.
The break-up of the Central assistance sought by Karnataka is as follows:
• Post-Matric Scholarships for OBCs Rs 70 Crore
• Pre-Matric Scholarships for OBCs Rs 50 Crore
• Construction of Hostels OBC Girls Rs 35.72 Crore
The minister also appealed to the Central minister to consider the proposal of Central Assistance under the centrally sponsored scheme of construction of Hostels for OBC Girls under the new revised guidelines, which is effective from 2014-15.
