Mangaluru, Sep 15: Three unidentified persons snatched away cash amounting to about Rs 27,000 and ten cheques from a person named Shivanna from the city, who was going to a bank to deposit cash and the cheques. The incident occurred at Bendorewell Junction signal here on Monday September 14.
It is learnt that cash and cheques had been handed over to Shivanna by Jayaram Shetty, manager of a company at Bendorwell, for being deposited in the bank. When the rickshaw in which Shivanna was seated was waiting for signal at the Horticulrure Circle at Bendorewell, three strangers seated on a motor bike forcibly took cash and cheques away from the possession of Shivanna. The trio apparently were aware that Shivanna had cash in his possession, and had closely followed the auto rickshaw, duly waiting for an opportunity to rob him.
The robbers then tried to flee in their motor bike, but when they were moving away, auto rickshaw driver, using presence of mind, pulled at the shirt of the man seated behind in the motor bike. The robbers, who were in a hurry, fell down along with the two-wheeler. One of them flashed a knife at the auto rickshaw driver, after which they ran away, leaving the motor bike behind. It is gathered that the rider of the motor bike had masked his face with a multi-coloured kerchief, while the other two had not hidden their faces.
The policemen have found that the motor bike left behind carried a fake number plate. A case was filed in Kadri police station about the incident, and the policemen have launched a manhunt for the culprits.
