Kundapur, Jul 6: JD (S) leader and former president of National Commission for Women Philomena Peris paid a visit to Katkeri Carmel Ashram and took stock of things following the assault on Fr Sylvester who is the superior of this Ashram by Bajrang Dal activists led by Ramanna Shetty on Thursday July 5.
While speaking to press persons who were present on the spot, she said, “The attack on religious leader is nothing but an attack on entire society”. She also gave a call to the community to fight till justice delivered to Fr Sylvester, 4 companions in particular and to community in general. She also visited Kundapur church and had discussions with parish priest Fr Antony Lobo.
J S Noronha, state vice-president of JD (S), Thangappan, Luis Lobo, district president of JD (S) minorities’ cell, Shiriyala Manjunath Shetty, Alexander, B J Manjunath, K S Nayak, Ratnakar Shetty, Yousuf, Raju Poojary Tallur, Cyprian, Derick, Basil D’Souza, vice-president of Kundapur parish council, A J Buthelo, Rony Rodrigues, Jacob D’Souza, Sushil Noronha, were present on the spot.
Later in the after she held a press conference here during which she promised to discuss with JD (S) supremeo Deve Gowda about setting up of Minority Protection Task Force in order to safegaurd the rights of the minority communities.
She also demanded the suspension of ASP Jayant of Kundapur police station who is said to have sided with the culprits by registering a soft case against them initially.
JD (S) state vice-president J S Noronha, secretary Thangappan, block president Shiriyala Manjunath Shetty, Sushil Noronha and Louis Lobo were also present at teh press conference.
