Mangalore, Jul 3: A memorandum was presented to Western Range IGP H N Satyanarayana by a delegation led by DK district Congress vice-president Ivan D’Souza. The delegation also comprised of Catholic Sabha president Lancy D’Cunha, ICYM director Fr Anil D’Souza, ICYM central committee president Kevin D’Souza, Christian community leaders Jude Noronha, Deepak D’Souza, Lesly Rego, Dinesh D’Souza, Thokkottu Anil D’Souza, Herald D’Souza, former mayor K Ashraf, Anif Keenya and others.
After reviewing the memorandum IGP said that Kundapur SI has been already transferred, while he offered assurances of arresting the alleged accused after probing the petition lodged by Glen Anil Rebello who is under treatment after being assaulted on Sunday July 1 evening.
Following are the points of memorandum submitted by Catholic Sabha, ICYM and Christian leaders to Western Range IGP H N Satyanarayana:
No action has been taken on the petition submitted after the protest meet at Kundapur on Jun 27, against the assault on Carmelite priest Fr Sylvester Pereira and others at Koteshwar on June 25.
No action has been taken on SI who has tried to save the accused and release them on bail.
The accused are involved in similar acts in Kundapur which is justified with the attack on Glen Anil Rebello, a local youth. He is said to have been waiting for bus in the town on Sunday evening when a group of 4 men forced him to get in to a car and took him to a lonely place. There 3 more persons joined the group and they assaulted them and forced him to give a statement that attack on Fr Sylvester was for right.
Accordingly the delegation demanded that the administration should take stern action against these fanatics who are bent on destroying minority community. Bajrang Dal activists have been causing disturbances in the society by unnecessarily attacking the innocent people.
So the IGP has been urged to form a special police team under the leadership of DySP to keep a vigilant eye on these anti-social elements.
