Sullia, Sep 10: A lady lecturer of Bellare government composite PU college in the taluk has filed police complaint against college principal and six other fellow lecturers. She has accused these seven persons of mentally harassing and assaulting her.
The complainant in question, Laxmi Prasad, says that principal of the college, U Subraya Gowda, and lecturers of the college, Vishwanath, Dr Sandhya, Pooja, Anita, Kundar Nayak, and Sathish Gowda have been subjecting her to mental harassment and physical assault. "Although I have two doctorates to my credit, my credentials go unrecognized at the college, and I get insulted by my own co-workers," she has alleged.
The principal however, dismissed these allegations, stressing that no such incidents as alleged have ever happened in the college.
On Wednesday September 9, students of the PU college section of the institution boycotted classes and held protest, claiming that the above were false allegations, and urging the lecturer to withdraw her complaint. They said that the lecturer concerned had been disturbing peaceful atmosphere prevailing in the college, and demanded for her immediate transfer.
Local policemen visited the spot and held talks with the agitating students. They said that the transfer of the lecturer is a demand that has to be considered by the department of PU education. About withdrawal of the complaint, they noted that the students themselves can request the lecturer to do so. They assured to investigate the complaint and settle the matter by Saturday.
Student leader, Sujit, said that the issue should be closed by Saturday and warned that the students would undertake tougher measures of protest if the lecturer concerned is not transferred within ten days.
The personnel of the town police station have registered a case and begun investigation.
