Mumbai, Jun 30: As reported heavy rains have derails life in the metro on Saturday June 30.  It has been raining cats and dogs owing to which air, railway service has been badly affected.  Here are some exclusive pictures by Rons Bantwal for Daijiworld readers.

Heavy rains disrupt Mumbai life; all flights cancelled
 

Heavy rains in the city threw normal life out of gear on Saturday with the rail and road network hit due to flooding in various parts.

All domestic and international flights from Mumbai were suspended because of poor visibility.

"All flights were suspended at around 1145 hrs (IST) and will be resumed as soon as the visibility improves," an airport spokesperson said.

 Since morning, the flights were delayed by 30 minutes, he added.

The central line of the suburban rail network was stopped early this morning due to flooding at many points on the line, a spokesperson for the Railways said.

"The main suburban line is operational only up to Byculla and the harbour line is operational only up to Kurla due to flooding in areas near the CST terminus in south Mumbai," chief public relations officer for Central Railways Shriniwas Mudgerikar told PTI.

Due to water logging at Dadar, Mahim and a few more places along the Western Railway, the suburban trains were running 25-30 minutes late, a spokesperson said.

So far all long distance trains on the Western Railway are running and if the rains continue then some of them may get cancelled, the spokesperson said.

The long-distance WR trains will get terminated at suburban Andheri instead of Mumbai Central and will start from Andheri, he added.

Flooding was reported in many parts across the city including areas vulnerable to them like the Milan and Malad sub-ways in the Western suburbs, parts of central Mumbai and south Mumbai.

Incidents of flooding were also reported from in many parts of the western and eastern suburbs due to the heavy rains.

Authorities said a high tide of about four metres was expected this afternoon, which could affect the drainage of the water if the rains continued unabated.

The meteorological department had predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall till Sunday in parts of the city and has also warned fishermen not to venture into the seas till tomorrow.

LC III flag has been hoisted at ports from Dahanu to Marmagoa and of Maharashtra-Goa coast, the weather office said.

Rainfall recorded for last 24 hours till 0830 am (IST) on Saturday -- at Colaba observatory in south Mumbai was 146.8mm, while Santacruz observatory recorded 174.1 mm.
