Mangalore, Jun 29: The issue regarding the distribution of ‘Nirmal Gram Puraskar’ trophies was the centre of attention at the seventh general meeting of the zilla panchayat held here on Thursday June 28.
Members of the opposition alleged that though the award had been presented to the gram panchayats months ago in New Delhi, the trophies had not been given yet.
Several gram panchayats had been honoured with the Nirmal Gram Puraskar under the Sampoorna Swachata Andolan by the President a few months ago.
The Congress members alleged that the ZP president Sushma Janardhan had not handled the issue properly and failed to give justice to the GPs.
They also argued that the former ZP president Mamata Gatti did not even bother to congratulate the GPs on their achievement.
Responding to the allegations, ZP CEO A M Kunjappa said that only five GPs had not received the trophies. He assured them that the trophies will be handed over soon and said that the confusion had occurred as some of the GPs were added to the award list at the last moment.
Among those present were ZP vice-president Rajashri Hegde, standing committee heads, members of the opposition and others.
