Mangalore, Jun 26: A monsoon rally will be organized against drug abuse by Link De-addiction and Counseling Centre in association with Sreedevi College of Social work, NSS departments of various colleges and the Students Islamic Organization (SIO) here on Tuesday June 26.
A press release stated that the two-wheelers rally has been organized to create awareness on drug abuse in the city and to prevent the youth from getting into drugs, alcohol and tobacco abuse. The rally will be flagged-off at Balmatta here at 3.30 pm and will proceed towards Nehru Maidan at 4 pm where a programme will be held.
On this occasion anti-addiction cells in college campuses and anti-drugs campaign for the year 2007-08 will be inaugurated. The gathering will be addressed by recovering drug users from Narcotics Anonymous (Bangalore) and additional SP Lokesh Kumar will administer the oath, stated the release.
The release further stated that every year June 26 is observed as the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.
‘Do drugs control your life? You life, your community. No place for drugs’ this slogan was suggested by the United Nations Office of Drugs and Crime (UNODC) for the campaign against drug abuse. The theme selected for year 2007-08 was ‘No place for drugs in my life, in my community.’
Link De-addiction and Counseling Centre are planning a year-long campaign against drug abuse in the city in the backdrop of growing drug abuse among the youth. The centre will form anti-addiction cells at the colleges to combat drug abuse, the release stated.
