Mangalore, Jun 24: Problem arose at the cooling tower of MCF on Friday night due to heavy rains and storm. Out of a team of four that went to inspect the tower on Saturday, two were found dead and two injured here on Saturday June 23. Initial reports had however stated there were three injured.

One of the deceased was MCF general manager of Maintenance Ramanand Baglodi (52) a resident of Yayyadi who has been working for MCF since the past 27 years. He leaves behind his wife, a daughter who is studying engineering and a son who is doing his P U C. The second deceased is Senior Manager of Machine division B Ramachandra Baliga (46) working for the company for the past 21 years. He too leaves behind his wife and son who is a Class VII student.

Assistant Manager of Civil division Kirthan Kumar and the Machine division officer Valerian Mascarenhas, who were injured in the mishap, are being treated in a private hospital. Their condition is stated to be critical.

It is said that on Saturday the four MCF officers had gone to inspect the tower. As they were crossing the wooden bridge which connects the cooling tower and building, the bridge collapsed, dragging all the four officers down.

MCF Managing director Deepak Anand told the Media that due to this incident of collapse of the cooling tower, the heat is increasing and the production has been affected up to 10 per cent. He also said that earlier the company representative had come from Kochi and inspected the cooling tower and gave the report. After his report only the officers had gone to inspect the tower.

According to Anand though the production is less but it is not the matter to be worried however the void left by the death of the officers is irreparable. 

MCF Vice President Ramprasad S, U B Group Media network division GM Prakash Mirpuri too were present at the press meet.
