Dubai, Aug 22 (Khaleej Times): The Oberoi, Dubai, prepared a miniature version of India to welcome Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the emirate, replete with tri-colour decorations and the PM's favourite dishes.

Preparations for the visit on August 17 began two days before the PM's arrival, with every member of the hotel's staff taking part. To decorate, for example, housekeeping staff adorned the entire hotel with white, green and saffron flowers.

Additionally, the hotel's resident 'Mithai' chefs prepared the PM's favourite meals and personalised edibles, such as chocolate, with Modi's image on them. To make him feel more at home, the PM's favourite tea was flown in from India ahead of his arrival, and a sketch of him adorned the hotel's VIP book. The PM stayed in the presidential suite overlooking the Burj Khalifa, which was decorated with images of UAE and Indian leaders to symbolise the long-standing relationship between the two countries.

In the evening, Modi met with 250 Indian businessmen in hotel's grand ballroom, an event that only a few select members of the Oberoi's staff were permitted to attend.

The entire stay was organised "to the minute" by hotel manager Tapan Piplani and general manager Karim Bazid. Both of them have previous experience overseeing state visits in hotels in the UAE, India and across the Middle East.

"It was an absolute honour to welcome the prime minister of India to the hotel. This was a historic visit and one that will surely strengthen the long-lasting relationship between India and the Emirates," Bazid said. "I am glad that The Oberoi, Dubai, and the entire team were able to contribute to this momentous visit."
