Mangaluru, Aug 21: In a suspected case of murder, the body of a man was found in an open drain in a private property next to the national highway near Kolnad here on Friday August 21.
The deceased has been identified as Yellappa (24) from Bijapur. He was working as a security guard in a building at Mallikatta.
It is said that on August 19 he said he left from home saying he was going to Udupi, but did not return. His wife had filed a complaint in this regard. Sources said that Yellappa was also mentally unstable.
The property in which the body was found belongs to one Giridhar Shetty. The area is sparsely populated.
It is suspected that the man was murdered, and his neck was tied to a rope suspended from a tree to give it the appearance of suicide, and then thrown into the drain.
The dead man's shirt was soaked in blood, which gave rise to the murder theory.
The man might have died about two days ago, it is supected.
Mulky police arrived at the spot and investigated.
