Kundapur, Jul 25: The conductor of a bus was thrashed by locals at Koteshwar bus stand here on Saturday July 25 for allegedly misbehaving with a lady passenger.

It is alleged that the bus conductor, identified as Babanna (28), a resident of Kokkarne, came towards a young female passenger in the bus and misbehaved with her on the pretext of sliding the window.

The woman passenger was travelling home in Sri Laxmi bus from Kundapur to Kokkarne. When it started to rain, the conductor came to her seat and saying that he wanted to close the window, allegedly misbehaved with her.

After reaching home, the girl narrated the incident to her brother, but by then the bus had left from her place. The locals who came to know about the incident found out information about the bus' route and lay in wait. When the bus was plying from Kundapur to Kokkarne again, they waylaid it at Koteshwar. They the took the conductor to task and assaulted him.

The traffic in Koteshwar town was affected due to the incident and tension prevailed for sometime. The Kundapur police who rushed to the spot brought the situation under control.

The police took the conductor into custody for questioning.

Kundapur police are investigating further.

Why dint the Police catch the group of people who assaulted the bus conductor? couldn't the girls brother inform the Police in hand?
Our law is very absurd, book charges against both parties!

Another question, if the conductor misbehaved, what were the co passenger doing? Sounds stupid.

It is quite possible that he has successfully slided the windows in the past. In this particular incident also he might have thought it to be successful but only to find later it to be very expensive for him. Now he will not have courage to slide the windows in that way.

Excuse me please, when the conductor misbehaved with the Girl,I am sure there were other passengers also, nobody noticed it?why the Girl didnt make any attempt to say or defend it but went home to narrate.By her Action not only People believed, and thrashed first conductor instead of reporting to ploice .Here is going everything out of the way,and causing a lot of nuesense and People are taking the law in their Hands without varifying.I dont say what conductor did was right. We have to believe the Girl.what exactly he did must have other passengers not seen?and they didnt say anything?Nowadays many things are against men, which sometimes really later turns out wrong.

@Rita, I agree with your 'contrarian' views that she should have shouted for help on the spot and the other passengers in the bus should have confronted him then and there and taken him to task red-handed! Much after the incident, just on somebody's statement, hammering a person black and blue seems barbaric and is taking law into one's own hands!!

Am reminded of an incident which took last week in Mumbai wherein in a young college going girl self inflicted wounds with a knife on her stomach and hands and put the blame on one innocent boy who suffered a lot before the actual truth came out from the girl who to hide her affairs thought of this idea!! Though, I definitely condemn this incident of taking advantage of a youngster under the guise of sliding the window!!

It seems that some grudge the girl had on conductor from past. She could have slapped him then and there at least people from bus could have came to know.

Why so many molestations are happening in Kundpaur? What is the root cause? Time to ponder these issues. I think the modern lifestyle and food are making men like this. Women are suffering now, They cannot liev peacefully in Kundapur area. I feel the elder people in society and social workers must educate the youngsters about this, Educate the younger generations about decenct diginity and teach them to repsect women in general. Women in Indian cuture is a sacred and every effort must be made to respect their life and diginity Police Soical workers can play an important role in thsi issues. I am sure these molestations will stop if we really educate our younger generations
