Kundapur, Jul 25: The conductor of a bus was thrashed by locals at Koteshwar bus stand here on Saturday July 25 for allegedly misbehaving with a lady passenger.
It is alleged that the bus conductor, identified as Babanna (28), a resident of Kokkarne, came towards a young female passenger in the bus and misbehaved with her on the pretext of sliding the window.
The woman passenger was travelling home in Sri Laxmi bus from Kundapur to Kokkarne. When it started to rain, the conductor came to her seat and saying that he wanted to close the window, allegedly misbehaved with her.
After reaching home, the girl narrated the incident to her brother, but by then the bus had left from her place. The locals who came to know about the incident found out information about the bus' route and lay in wait. When the bus was plying from Kundapur to Kokkarne again, they waylaid it at Koteshwar. They the took the conductor to task and assaulted him.
The traffic in Koteshwar town was affected due to the incident and tension prevailed for sometime. The Kundapur police who rushed to the spot brought the situation under control.
The police took the conductor into custody for questioning.
Kundapur police are investigating further.
