Indian junior hockey girls lose 0-1 to England


Breda (The Netherlands), July 25 (IANS): India lost to England 0-1 in their last league match of the women's Volvo International Under-21 hockey tournament here on Saturday.

Kate Holmes struck the sole goal of the match in the 47th minute as the Indians ended the league phase with one win, one draw and three losses.

The first half of the match saw India dominating the game by continuously penetrating England's half and they managed to secure a penalty corner but it was saved by England goalkeeper Amy Tennant.

The game turned out to be tough as both the sides' defence stood tall, not allowing goals in the first half.

The second half witnessed a much more intense battle as the teams tried their best to break the deadlock.

It was England's Kate who created some space inside the Indian circle and scored a field goal in the 47th minute.

After conceding the goals, a desperate India tried their best but they were thwarted by a strong English defence. They even earned crucial penalty corners but failed to convert them as England won the match 1-0.
