Udupi, Jul 24: In a daylight theft, cash amounting Rs 7.5 lac was stolen from a car parked in a lane behind Ambalpady Janardhana Temple here on Friday July 24.
The car and the cash belonged to Vasanth Kumar, a dealer in second-hand cars and owner of Ganesh Auto firm at Nittur.
It is learnt that Vasanth Kumar had come to Ambalpady temple on Friday to pray, but as there was a heavy rush he could not find a parking spot in or near the temple premises. He then parked his car in a lane behind the temple.
When he returned later, he found to his utter shock that someone had smashed the glass of the car window and taken away Rs 7.5 lac that Vasanth had withdrawn from the bank.
The Udupi police arrived at the spot and investigated. It is said that no one saw the culprit, and that the CCTV camera at the temple is not functioning.
A case has been registered in Udupi police station.
