Puttur, Jul 22: The body of a student named Anisha (12), who had been swept away by the force of water when crossing an overflowing canal at Anangoor Nirala in Nikkilady village near Uppinangady was found late night on Monday July 20. Expert divers, who were among a large number of people involved with a widespread search, brought out her body late night on Monday.
Anisha, daughter of Sakeena, a resident of Allangar in Subhasnagar in Nemmilady, a seventh standard student of Karvelu government school , was returning home with her younger brother, Muhammed Mustafa, who studies in fifth standard, and two other classmates. As the canal near Arabbi was in full flow, she helped her brother and classmates to cross it, but slipped when crossing the canal and was washed away on Monday after school hours.
Local swimmers and divers, led by home guards officer, Mansoor, and helped by expert divers from Tannir Bavi, Javid, Sadiq, Muhammed Wasim, and Imran, continued to search for her body all through the night. Finally, her body was found from the spot where the canal joins River Netravati. Thereafter,postmortem was conducted at Uppinangady community health centre.
Tahsildar of the taluk, M T Kullegowda, Bantwal block education officer, Sheshashayana Karinja, and others visited the family and consoled its bereaved members.
