Mangaluru, Jul 20: "The future of Billavas is secure because organisations like Yuvavahini are relentlessly organising programmes that keep their culture alive. Programmes like Atidonji Dina bring forth the talents of rural people," said Tulu Sahitya Academy president Janaki Brahmavar.

She was speaking after inaugurating the 13th Atidonji Dina programme organised by Mulky Yuvavahini at Mulky Billava Sangha here on Sunday July 19. She inaugurated the event by breaking a jackfruit savoury in a traditional style.

“The traditional festivals of Dakshina Kannada are unfortunately losing importance. Imported festivals are celebrated instead. Varamahalaxmi festival is celebrated even during heavy rains. Festivals of the soil like Bisu Parba and Keddasa should be encouraged instead of foreign festivals. Yuvavahini should encourage this trend," said Sudhakara Suvarna, chief correspondent of Vijaya Karnataka in his address.

Ayurveda doctor Dr N T Anchan who was chosen as the Udupi district president of Ayush was felicitated. M H Aravind Punja the administrator of Karnad Sri Harihara Kshethra, Harishchandra P Salian from Mulky Billava Sangha, H Satish Kumar the president of Mulky Yuvavahini, secretary Bhaskar Kotian, Rajivi V Suvarna, Madhukar Suvarna, Sugandhi Satish the directors of the programme were chief guests. Yuvavahini central committee president Premanath K Bantwal presided over.

In between the programme ''Kusalda gonchil'', ''Bale onthe telipale'', and ''Nalike'' skits were presented and traditional snacks were served to visitors.

Atada Atil programme attracted around three thousand participants.

One of the highlights of the event was the sumptuous spread of traditional cuisine. As many as 15 types of mouth-watering dishes, prepared by Yuvavahini members, were served during this programme and greatly relished by all.

M Satish Kumar welcomed. Narendra Kerekadu spoke about the importance of the day. Vijay Kumar Kubevur and Udayama Amin Mattu compeered. Bhaskar Kotian proposed the vote of thanks.

Since Tulu Nadu was not created during independence, Our culture, tradition and language have taken back seat. We have to learn alien Kannada language and follow their culture. Hats off to the Billava community for organizing such a wonderful event and creating awareness about our great culture. All the Tulu Nadu people should come together and fight for Separate Tulu Nadu state.
