Dharwad, Jul 20 (DHNS): Two farmers ended their lives over crop loss and debt burden in the State on Sunday.
Ningappa Dyamanna Gudihal (22) committed suicide by consuming pesticide at his house in Tavargera village of Kalghatagi taluk, Dharwad district.
According to villagers, Gudihal owned six acres of land and had availed loans totalling to Rs 9.50 lakh. He had sown sugar cane, maize, and soyabean, which however, failed.
Fifty-five-year-old Ramanna Lokappa Lamani ended his life by consuming poison in Chinnamulagund taanda of Hirekeruru taluk, Haveri district. He and his brothers together owned eight acres 14 guntas. Lamani is said to have borrowed loans from banks and private persons. The police, quoting family sources, said that Lamani ended his life owing to crop failure and debt burden.
