Kundapur, Jul 19: "There have been no irregularities in the school run by Vijaya Makkala Koota under Grama Seva Sangama Society at Devalkunda. There are no plans to grab land as alleged. The school is registered with the sole aim of imparting education as per the rules of the government and the Constitution. There have been no irregularities as alleged by some people," said society secretary Subhaschandra Shetty.
He was responding to allegations made by locals at Devalkunda that the school, which has been functioning for the past four years, had submitted false documents for registeration and to take government land on lease. A protest in this regard was held on July 14, during which the locals locked up the school.
Addressing a press meet in Kundapur, he said that some people with vested interests have caused unnecessary confusion among students and their parents. "The school started in 1957 was closed in 2009. It was reopened in an attempt to give it a new shape ahd was registered under Grama Seva Society. The school has its own by-laws and is functioning within the purview of the Constitution. It also has relevant records.
"However some people have orally put forward their demands. As we are unable to work outside the purview of the by-laws, we had to issue a notice," he added.
"The land where the school is located belongs to the government. The tahsildar led a survey of the land four months ago. We do not want to grab any land. There are records for everything, and also the auditor's report. We have not asked for donations from private individuals. As we impart good education, 212 students are studying in the school and 12 teachers are working here. The management committee and parents' committees are scrutinizing every move. We have no intention to cheat," he said.
"The CCTV cameras were damaged in the protest held on July 14. Even the school board was thrown away. I am not complaining against anybody, but those who had suggested reopening the school earlier have now gone against it. Students and parents should not feel anxious," he said.
School headmistress Deepika Subhash Shetty, student parent committee president Anitha Raghavendra Hebbar and vice-president Deepa were present.
