Udupi, Jul 19: Catholic Sthree Sanghatan of Udupi diocese organized felicitation programme for the women candidates who won and participated in the recently held gram panchayat elections on Saturday, Jul 18 at Don Bosco Hall, Udupi.
In her keynote address, Veronica Cornelio the president of Karnataka soap and detergent Limited said “It is the duty of every person to attend gram Sabha meeting. This time the reservation for women seats were increased to 50 percent and due to this many ladies got a chance to enter politics. It is because of the support of Bishop, Catholic sabha and Sthree sangatan, many Christian ladies have come forward in political field,"
"Do not miss any training sessions given to you. By attending such sessions one can get lot of knowledge. You should devote your time to the ward members, should listen to their problems and find solutions." She added.
Bishop Gerald Isaac Lobo speaking on the occasion said "Out of 133 candidates, 67 members have won the elections. Not only to Sthree sangatan but also the women have bought name to Udupi Diocese, I congratulate you all for your efforts. Among 14 dioceses, highest Christian winning candidates are from Udupi Diocese. Many women had participated in elections, Some have won and some have gained new experience. We should always remember that there is no defeat in life. We gain new experience and grow up in our leadership qualities. I request all the ladies to attend gram sabha meetings in big numbers and help the people who are in need. Jesus also did the same, he helped the down trodden and needy.
