Mangaluru, Jul 18: Prema (62), a resident of Barebail in the city, has filed a complaint in Kavoor police station, alleging that a tempo driver and cleaner had forcibly taken away a coral gold chain from her neck on Friday July 17. She has put the value of the chain at Rs 36,000.

Prema says that she had planned to visit her daughter living at Kavoor Shantinagara from Barebail. She claimed that she was walking towards Yeyyady for catching a bus, when a tempo stopped by her side. Its driver and cleaner asked her where she wanted to go. When she said she was going to Kavoor, the duo said they too were bound for Kavoor, and asked her to get into the tempo.

After the vehicle moved through Vyasanagara and KPT and then Kavoor via Kuntikan, Prema wanted to get down. The driver said he would drop her off near her daughter's home after cleaner is dropped near his home. When the tempo reached Porkody Shantigudde, the driver stopped tempo, got down, and asked Prema to pay Rs 20 to another person. When Prema was removing cash from her bag, both cleaner and driver snatched chain from her neck, and forced her to get down from the tempo. They also threatened to kill her if she refused to go, Prema said. After she got down, the tempo sped away.

Kavoor police have registered a case based on this complaint.
