Panaji, May 20: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has filed a complaint with the election commission against Maharashtra revenue minister Narayan Rane for misusing his position during campaigning for Goa assembly elections on June two.
"We have asked central election commission and goa's chief electoral officer to stop Rane from misusing his position," BJP leader and leader of opposition Manohar Parrikar told reporters here.
Rane, who has a strong hold over Konkan belt, bordering Goa, is campaigning for Congress in the state.
"Rane is using siren while moving around heavily guarded. He is ordinary politician in Goa and security to the extent of what is required should be provided to him," Parrikar, former chief minister, said.
The BJP leader said that Rane, by going around with the guards armed with machine guns, is intimidating voters.
"We won't mind Rane campaigning in Goa but he should do it as a normal leader," Parrikar said.
The BJP has also demanded that Goa-Maharashtra boundary be sealed to prevent anti-social elements from entering the state. "Many anti-social elements owing their allegiance to Rane are likely to come in Goa Pernem and Mandrem constituency. We have asked the election commission to seal the borders," he said.
"All the vehicles entering Goa should be checked and those with criminal background should not be allowed to enter in," he said.
