Kundapur, Jul 14: A man said to be involved in multiple relationships and frauds has been accused of luring and kidnapping the wife of a man from Kharvikeri.
The accused, identified as Prashant Kharvi alias Pachchu (36) from Maddugudde here, already has a wife, and was involved with two sexual relationships earlier, it is said. He had also sold off the landed property inherited by him from his father, pledged his wife's gold ornaments to avail loan, and sold the ornaments off as he was unable to clear the loan, and had developed relationship with two different women, it is reported.
Prashant, who was involved with the profession of collecting sea shells, liked to groom himself well and was in the habit of trying to woo girls with his charm. He married a lady from Sanyasiballe in Trasi near Gangolli five years ago, and had two daughters through her. He married a girl from another religion seven months back illegally. After this came to light, relatives of the lady had become furious and were about to beat him up, but later, the issue was sorted out amicably through dialogues. It is gathered that he also had illicit relationship with another lady from Brahmavar in Udupi taluk, with whom he lived with for sometime.
Over the last three months, he had come close to the married woman from Kharvikeri. As he acted very friendly with the woman's husband, the latter did not have any inkling about the intentions of the accused. On July 8, the woman disappeared from her home, leaving behind her three children and husband. After elaborate enquiries were made, the husband came to know about the relationship his wife shared with Prashant, it is learnt.
After Prashant disappeared, it has come to light that he was involved with a number of bogus deeds. He raised loan of over Rs 60,000 through the self help group being run under Shree Kshetra Dharmasthala Rural Development Project (SKDRDP), taking advantage of the fact that his wife was a member there. This money was taken away by him. He also pledged gold ornaments of his wife towards maintaining his fancy looks and hobbies. He also convinced his friend at Bhatkal to pledge 12 sovereigns of gold and raise loan for him. He also raised loan of Rs 50,000 additionally through another self help group of which the wife of his another friend happens to be a member. Prashant's wife, who is now facing the daunting task of repaying the loan and looking after the children, is facing crisis-like situation.
Some people close to the lady who eloped with Prashant now say that she too is shrewd. The land her husband bought was registered in her name, and she had raised over three lac rupees by way of housing loan against mortgage of this land. She has taken away the documents of this land when fleeing. It is said that she had raised huge loans, having been a service representative of SKDRDP.
The husband, who has lost wife, money, as well as documents relating to land he had bought out of hard-earned money, has now filed an abduction case in the local police station.
