Kundapur, Jul 12: After two days of intense search, the body of 7-year-old Vismaya Devadiga, who had drowned in Chakra river on Friday July 10, was finally found on Sunday July 12 morning.

Vismaya, daughter of Shekar and Jalaja Devadiga, residents of Sanyasibettu, Maranakatte, was going to school accompanied by her mother when the tragecy took place.

While crossing a narrow wooden bridge on the way to school, Vismaya left go of her mother's hand and accidentally fell into the water. The force of the water was such that she got swept away immediately. The wooden bridge had been built by the locals after the government turned down their request for a concrete bridge.

Though locals, police and the fire service tried to search for her, their efforts bore no result for two days. Finally, on Sunday morning, her body was found near Nyagala Mane in Maranakatte, about one kilometre away from the spot where she had slipped.

The locals retrieved the body, which was fully decomposed. The body has been sent for post-mortem to Kundapur government hospital.

MLA Gopal Poojary visited the spot and assured that the bereaved family would be given compensation by next Saturday (July 18).

She is with God almighty in heaven as an angel.
I have consolation that the dirty politicians all have to give account of their dirt to the Supreme one.
Everyone is going to die one day and no one is permanent.

This tragic accident could have been avoided and this innocent child would be living still had the Govt. built a concrete bridge. If britishers were bad our own Indian govt. are worse than the britishers. Secondly, if that child had known swimming she could have saved herself. I request every parent to teach their children swimming and especially those who are living near lakes, rivers & streams and have to cross dangerous makeshift bridges.

Very sad to read these kind of news. In India they have money to buy BMW for our politicians but no money to build bridge or provide proper way to cross. All parties are same.
