Udupi, Jul 11: YCS training program and election of new central council was held on July 5 at Don Bosco Hall, Bishops House Udupi.
People from all directions of the diocese gathered for one purpose ie, to know who would be the new office bearers for the coming year. Everyone was excited and enthusiastic as they gathered to the registration counter. As it is said, seeking the blessings of god would make everyone fresh, so the program for the day started with a eucharistic celebration in which Fr Edwin D'souza director of YCS Udupi was the main celebrant. The readings were done by the council members after which Fr Edwin gave a talk according to gospel and the minds of the youth.
After the mass everyone had a stomach full breakfast. Everyone rejoined in a while and got prepared for the training which was conducted by the resource person Nobert Misquith. Meanwhile animators and conveners underwent a training given by the diocesan resource persons Francis D'cunha along with prof Vincent Alva professor at Milagres College. They pointed out the role of animators and conveners and how they can guide and help YCS members on a large scale. In between the talks former YCS and new ICYM councils came up with some action songs, games and cell activities.
In the second session of the afternoon - the most awaited moment, election of YCS central council was held and the office bearers of Udupi diocese YCS council for the year 2015-16 were choosen. This was further followed by a delicious lunch. The time had come for the oaths to be taken.
The oath taking ceremony was mastered by ex-council treasurer Viola Mendonca. The dignitories president Fr Royal Nazareth, chief guest Fr Rolwin Aranha, Fr Edwin D'souza, and Norbert Misquith, Francis D’cunha, Stany Fernandes and diocese animators John Castellino and Leena Mendonca were present. Along with them also the ICYM and YSM council members and YCS outgoing council members were on the dais.
Fr Royal then addressed the gathering with a message. Fr Edwin honoured the outgoing council with mementos. It was the turn of the outgoing secretary Jeenal Saldanha to read out the annual report for the year 2014-15.
After that the outgoing members shared the experiences they had during the year, while the outgoing president Clive Quadros welcomed the gathering. He also congratulated and wished the newly elected council well. It was then time for oaths to be taken. The elected members received scarves from the seniors of the same post. Every newly elected member was ready with candles lit up for the oath and they promised that they would work accordingly.
Fr Edwin announced the upcoming programs and trainings to be held during the year? He also congratulated the new council and thanked everyone for attending it. The newly elected president Priyanka Shruthi Noronha addressed the gathering. It was then time to windup the program, so the newly elected secretary Viyol Ezekiel Crasto delivered the vote of thanks.
Viola Mendonca compered the program. About 200 YCSers from all over the diocese attended the program and carried the message back to their units.
