Lisbon, July 9 (IANS): Venezuelan international footballer Jhon Murillo has joined the pre-season training of his new club Benfica, after passing the medical examination.
The 20-year-old player signed with the Portuguese champions for the next five seasons and was permitted to miss a few days of training, as he was playing with the Venezuelan team in the Copa America, Efe reported on Wednesday.
Murillo is expected to accompany his new Benfica teammates to play in the International Champions Cup in Canada against French club Paris Saint-Germain, Italy's Fiorentina and the New York Red Bulls from the US.
The Venezuelan moved to Lisbon this summer from Zamora FC, where he played 26 games last season and scored 10 goals.
Ljubomir Fejsa, the 26-year-old Serbian international, also joined Wednesday's training session, while Portugal's Rui Fonte and the Argentinian Salvio were away from the field, training in the gym to recover from their injuries.
After the tour in Canada, Benfica will travel to Mexico to face Club America on July 29 and Monterrey on August 2, in what will be the first edition of the Eusebio Cup.
