Mangaluru, Jul 8: A thief succeeded in diverting the attention of a bank customer, and decamp with his bag containing cash amounting to Rs 50,000. The incident occurred at Bunder here on Monday July 6.
A person named Adid Ansar had visited Canara Bank's Bunder branch here at a round 11.30 am on Monday. After withdrawing Rs 50,000, he reached near his car parked by the side of the road adjacent to the bank. He placed the bag containing cash on his side seat and was about to start his car, when a person, who apparently had scattered a few ten rupees notes nearby, knocked at the car window, signalling to Ansar about the fallen currency notes. Ansar overlooked the man's signals and was moving the car ahead, when the man again said 'paisa, paisa' and pointed his finger below.
Ansar then got down from his car, picked up the ten rupee notes that had fallen there, and was about to occupy the driver's seat, when the stranger picked up the bag containing cash and fled.
A complaint about the incident was later filed by Ansar in Bunder police station. The policemen are trying to find out the identity and whereabouts of the culprit.
