Mangaluru, Jul 5: Well-known social activist Elias Sanctis took charge as the 29th president of Rotary Club Mangaluru central for the year 2015-16 on July 4 in the installation ceremony held at St Sebastian Church hall, Bendore here.
The installation ceremony of the new office-bearers for the year 2015-16 was done by Rtn K Ramakrishna Kamath, assistant governer for Rotary District 3180 zone 4.
Rtn Santhosh Shet, president for the year 2014-15 welcomed the gathering, while Rtn Naveen Kumar secretary read the annual report.
Msgr Denis Moras Prabhu, vicar general of diocese of Mangaluru presided over the function.
Addressing the gathering Elias Sanctis said, "I joined Rotary Club five years ago. The Rotary Club Mangaluru central has maintained high quality like a Mercedes bus all through the years, and I will do everything possible during my term to maintain the quality of our work. We are not going to carry anything to the grave, but the good work we do for others will be remembered by society. We need to have perennial vision for the Club. If we need water we need to dig 50 ft at one place and not 1 ft at 50 places. The new members we have chosen are those who have done something good for the society. I wish all success to the new members."
Rotary Club Mangaluru central enrolled 68 new members the same day, thus making it the largest Rotary Club of Mangaluru region.
Apart from Elias Sanctis, Dr Janardhan Shenoy (vice-president), Prasad K Shetty (secretary), Anand D'Souza (joint secretary), Oswald Pais (treasurer) and other new office-bearers also took charge of their posts.
Premanath Kudva, chartered president of the club, Rtn Prasad Shetty, and Rtn Raj Gopal Rai were present on the dais.
