Mangaluru, Jun 30: In yet another act of violence near Suratkal, six youths were assaulted allegedly by a group of around 15-20 unknown persons.
The incident occured at Munchoor on the evening of Tuesday June 30. This is third such incident of attack in the last three days in Suratkal police limits.
It is said that Siraj, Taufiq and Anwar, residents of Krishnapur, and three others were attacked and robbed by the group.
The three youths were returning home from work when it started to rain heavily, and they took shelter at a shop at Munchoor, where two other persons were also standing. While they were waiting for the rain to stop, a group of around 15 to 20 unidentified persons armed with rods approached them and demanded to know what they were doing there, and then started assaulting them, said Anwar, adding that they were attacked without any reason or provocation.
"There were five of us standing there. They assaulted us, pushed us to the ground and kicked us. Two others who were standing with us managed to escape. The group also robbed us of our money and damaged our mobile phones. When they were about to stab us with a long knife, we somehow managed to push them away and ran. We got into running bus and escaped," the victims said.
Locals said that from the last few days a group has been moving around in Suratkal armed with rods and weapons, but the police department has failed to take enough action.
